המועד השני מבין מועדי הסתיו נקרא יום הכיפורים — יום הכפרה. על מועד זה אנו קוראים בויקרא ט"ז, י"ז ובויקרא כ"ג: כ"ז.
ביום הקדוש הזה, הכהן הגדול היה נכנס עם דם הפר לעולה ודם השעיר דרך הפרוכת אל תוך קודש הקודשים שבמשכן — המקום הקדוש ביותר.
הכהן היה מזה את הדם על המזבח שמעל ארון הברית, וכך היה מכפר על בני ישראל (ויקרא י"ז: י"א).
באיגרת אל העברים, פרקים 9 ו-10, מוסבר כי דם הפרים והשעירים שהוקרבו לאלוהים בבית המקדש הקדום היה צל ורמז לדם של ישוע. דרך דמו השפוך ומותו של ישוע, ניתנת לנו סליחת חטאים לנצח!

לכן, עבורנו יום הכיפורים הוא זמן להודות ולסגוד לישוע על הקורבן שהוא הקריב, ולזכור את הסליחה שניתנה לנו על חטאינו. עלינו לזכור תמיד שהוא מת בעדנו בעוד היינו עוד חוטאים (רומים 5:8).
למועד הזה יש גם משמעות נבואית שעדיין לא התגשמה — חזרתו של עם ישראל אל משיחם (זכריה י"ב: י').
גם הברית החדשה מדברת על המאורע הזה ברומים 11:26, שם נאמר שכאשר המשיח ישוב:
"כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל יִוָּשַׁע."
וספר ההתגלות גם מתאר את האירוע הנשגב הזה:
"הִנֵּה הוּא בָּא עִם הָעֲנָנִים. כָּל עַיִן תִּרְאֶה אוֹתוֹ, גַּם אֵלֶּה שֶׁדְּקָרוּהוּ, וְיִסְפְּדוּ עָלָיו כָּל מִשְׁפְּחוֹת הָאָרֶץ. כֵּן; אָמֵן." (התגלות 1:7).

The book of Hebrews chapters 9 and 10 tell us that the blood of the bulls and the goats offered up to the LORD in the ancient Temple was a foreshadow of the blood of Yeshua. Through the shed blood and death of Jesus, we are forgiven once and for all!
